Also, the application for a New Zealand eTA involves uploading the following documents:

  • Eligible passport (with at least 3 months of validity; some airlines might require 6 months, so check beforehand)
  • Applicant's face photo (recent and formal)

What is the New Zealand eTA?

New Zealand eTA is an official electronic travel authorization allowing eligible visitors legal entry into New Zealand for tourism, business, or transit.

The NZeTA stays valid for 2 years from approval, granting numerous entries into the country.

The allowed stay is 6 months within a 12-month period. However, each visit cannot be longer than 3 months (or 6 months if a visitor is a British citizen).

To apply, a traveler must meet the requirements and complete a simple application by entering the necessary information into the form, attaching documentation, and making the payment.

Passporta makes procedures stress-free by providing support on every step of the application and verifying the information before submitting it to authorities.

The eTA for New Zealand is usually approved within 72 hours and delivered to the applicant's email address.

  • How long does it take to process a New Zealand eTA?

Most NZeTA applications are processed within 72 hours (3 days). However, it may be shorter/longer, depending on the situation.

  • How long can I stay in New Zealand with an eTA?

One visit can last up to 3 months (6 months for UK nationals). However, visitors can stay only for 6 months within a 12-month period.
  • Can I use my NZeTA for multiple trips to New Zealand?

Yes. The NZeTA is valid for 2 years from the date of issue and allows multiple entries to New Zealand. You may travel to other countries and return to New Zealand as long as your NZeTA remains valid. Each stay in New Zealand can last up to 90 days.
  • Can I explore New Zealand if I am only transiting through the country?

Nationals of certain countries may obtain an NZeTA only under specific conditions. If you come from one of these countries and your itinerary includes a layover in New Zealand, you must remain in the transit area of Auckland International Airport and cannot enter New Zealand. Should you wish to leave the airport or visit the country, you must hold a regular visa that allows entry.
In case you hold valid Australian permanent residency or are traveling on a cruise ship, you will be able to enter New Zealand using the NZeTA. Travelers who hold valid Australian permanent residency or those arriving by cruise ship may enter New Zealand on an NZeTA.
  • Can I work in New Zealand with an NZeTA?

No. Any work-related visits require obtaining an appropriate visa from a New Zealand embassy.
  • How can I check the status of my NZeTA on the government website?

You may verify the validity of your NZeTA using the “Check Status” tool on the New Zealand government website. Enter your NZeTA reference number (starting with the letter “E” followed by 9 digits) together with your passport number. If you do not know your reference number, you can check the status using only your passport details. If your application has been successfully finalized, the system will display the validity date of your NZeTA.
  • What should I do if my NZeTA has been rejected?

Unfortunately, the Immigration Office has determined that you do not meet the requirements for the NZeTA. In this case, you should contact the nearest embassy or consulate of New Zealand to apply for a traditional visa.
