Uganda Visa Rejection Reasons

The chance for rejection for a visa to Uganda may be minimized by the proper preparation. As the most common reason is an expired passport, check its validity and renew it if necessary before the application process.

Also, review all the details in the visa form twice and correct any possible mistakes. Attach all the required documents, as lacking some may lead to denial.

Criminal records and previous visa violations, including overstays, may cause the rejection as well.

FAQs

  • Do I need a Uganda e-Visa?

You can easily access this information by selecting your nationality in our eligibility checker available at the top of the website.
  • Do I need an e-Visa to transit through Uganda?

A transit visa to Uganda is generally necessary for travelers who are not from visa-free regions.
  • Can I apply for the Uganda e-Visa with a travel document?

No. Unfortunately, it is not possible to obtain a Uganda e-Visa using a travel document. A valid regular passport (national passport) is required to apply for the electronic visa. If you are traveling with a travel document, you must apply for a traditional paper visa directly at the Ugandan embassy.
  • What is the difference between the Uganda Ordinary/Tourist Visa and the East Africa Visa?

The standard Uganda visa grants entry only into Uganda. The East Africa Visa allows multiple entries between Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda. Once you leave the territory of these three countries, the visa becomes automatically invalid. Your first entry with the East Africa permit must be through the country that issued the visa.
Important: Kenya currently does not issue East Africa Visas and instead requires travelers to obtain a Kenyan ETA. If your trip begins in Kenya, you must obtain a Kenya ETA and a separate Uganda visa.
  • What documents are required for the Uganda e-Visa?

The basic documents required for all Uganda e-Visa types include a valid passport, a recent passport-style photograph of the applicant, and a return flight ticket. If you are applying for the East Africa visa, you will also need to provide a travel itinerary. Depending on the purpose of your visit (e.g., medical treatment, attending a conference, or transit), additional documents explaining the purpose of your trip may also be required.
  • How long is the Uganda e-Visa valid for?

All Uganda e-Visa types available on our website remain valid for 6 months from the date of approval. The time you can spend in Uganda cannot exceed 90 days.
  • How long does it take to process a Uganda e-Visa?

The Uganda e-Visa is usually approved within 3-4 working days from submitting the completed application form. The period may be longer due to our review and other factors.
  • How will I receive my e-Visa after approval?

Once approved, your e-Visa will be sent directly to the email address provided in the application form.
  • How can I check the status of my application?

To check the status of your application, you need a Passporta account. Please use this link to log in to your existing profile or create a new one.
  • My application status shows "Finished" – where is my e-Visa?

Once your application status shows "Finished", the e-Visa will be sent to your email address as a PDF attachment. Please check your inbox. Remember to check your SPAM or junk folder as well.
  • I submitted a Uganda e-Visa request on the government website. Can I apply again through Passporta?

Unfortunately, this is usually not possible. If you have already submitted an application using your passport details, the government system will block any additional applications for the same visa type. The system does not allow duplicate requests with the same passport number, document type, and issuing country. If this happens, you should contact the Uganda Immigration Office or the nearest Ugandan embassy or consulate to check the status of your existing application. You may also request a cancellation of the pending application. Once you receive official confirmation from the authorities that the request has been cancelled, you may submit a new application through our agency.
  • Can I get a visa on arrival in Uganda?

Currently, no visas are issued on arrival in Uganda. Before embarking on their travel to Uganda, foreigners need to secure either an electronic or a traditional visa.
  • What should I do if my e-Visa has been rejected?

Unfortunately, the Immigration Office has determined that you do not meet the requirements for the Ugandan e-Visa. In this case, you should contact the nearest embassy or consulate of Uganda to apply for a traditional visa.
