Who Can Apply for the Vietnam e-Visa?

The Vietnam electronic visa can be obtained by citizens of all countries in the world. A number of nationalities can, however, enter Vietnam without a visa for a period from 14 to 90 days (depending on the country).

You can see the precise requirements for your country via the Passporta checker tool. It is located at the top of the page and provides immediate access to the regulations of Vietnam.

To be eligible for online application, travelers must pursue leisure, transit, or business purposes of travel exclusively while the planned stay in the country is 90 days or less.

Important Update

The Vietnamese authorities have introduced the Pre-Arrival Information scheme. All travelers need to complete the Vietnam Pre-Arrival Card before their entry into the country.

It is essential to note that the Vietnamese arrival card is not equivalent to a visa.

If you have already been granted a visa for Vietnam, do remember to also complete the Pre-Arrival Card prior to your travel.

List of Eligible Countries

Nationals of all countries worldwide can apply for a Vietnam e-Visa.

Travelers from the following countries may enter Vietnam without a visa, provided their stay does not exceed the permitted duration:

  • Chile, Panama: for visits of up to 90 days
  • Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom: up to 45 days
  • Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand: stays of up to 30 days
  • Philippines: up to 21 days
  • Brunei: up to 14 days

Should you need a stay longer than 14, 21, 30, or 45 days, you must apply for an electronic visa before your trip.

Vietnam e-Visa Requirements

All applicants for a Vietnam e-Visa must prepare the mandatory documentation, including:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Vietnam
  • Recent photo of the applicant's face

It is essential to know that Vietnamese authorities have strict requirements for a face photograph: it should be of decent quality, not older than 6 months, without glasses, and the applicant's eyes should look directly into the camera.

  • Which port of entry should I specify for my Vietnam e-Visa?

You must select one of the official ports of entry that accept the Vietnam e-Visa when completing your application. Not all immigration checkpoints support e-Visa entry. Make sure your planned arrival point matches one of the approved ports to avoid entry issues.
  • When will my e-Visa be valid from?

  • How long does it take to process a Vietnam e-Visa?

The processing time of the Vietnam e-Visa usually takes 5 business days. Handle your entry permit online by submitting your application more than one week before your travel to avoid delays or have extra time to provide additional details, if needed.
  • Why is my application taking longer than my travel companion's application?

Please note that processing times may vary for each applicant. Even if another person applied at the same time and with the same nationality, their application may be processed at a different pace. Processing may also take longer if the authorities request additional information or documentation.

To successfully apply for a Vietnam eVisa, applicants must provide a clear and fully visible copy of the passport’s biodata page (showing all four corners, without glare or blur) as well as a recent personal photo from the last 6 months. The photo must be high quality, taken against a plain background, without glasses, and not the same image as the passport photo. Blurry, cropped, or improperly formatted documents may result in delays or rejection.
  • What should I do if my e-Visa has been rejected?

Unfortunately, the Immigration Office has determined that you do not meet the requirements for the Vietnamese e-Visa. In this case, you should contact the nearest embassy or consulate of Vietnam to apply for a traditional visa.
